Lee Krasner

She is not very popular, but she is one of the most powerful artists of what is know as abstract expressionism in painting.

She was not only Jackson Pollock’s wife -and she believed fiercely in his talent-, she was also a very strong woman that made her art HERS. She took all the tools she had as a painter and turned her art into a space for expression and experimentation.

Though the “compliment” from one of her teachers is… well, it shows what a woman has to stand up to sometimes, in orden to present herself as a legitimate creator: “This is so good you would not know it was painted by a woman.” ?????????????????????????????? wtf????????

Anyway, for Kresner, being a woman and being the wife of an artist like Pollock, were not obstacles to build her own proposal and to contribute to an aesthetic language from her own perspective and her own creativity.  She has powers of her own.
